OK Budapest. Cool it with the Cuteness

Ashley and I are waiting out a little rain at Fishermans Bastian, so taking a second to talk about Budapest.

This is a quick update on Budapest, a city we have very quickly realized we do not have enough time for. The architecture is incredible and the food/restaurant scene is equally as appealing. Ashley will post about the food when we leave.

Coming off of two weeks in Italy (cry me a river, right?) we were ready for a change of culture. We really had no idea what to expect from this city, but were excited to see it. We had caught the Parts Unknown on Budapest back in June and it became a place I couldn't wait to get to.

We landed on Tuesday evening and took a shuttle into the city. We checked in relatively fast, minus the incorrect address on my map, and the place was perfect.

For the first time in our travels we decided to plan dinners out, so we took a walk, made reservations at a few restaurants (An old friend Lawrie helped to provide some suggestions... trying the Bistro tonight) and then tried to find a place to eat that night. While we were walking we got the Danube and witnessed this spectacular sunset.

We settled at a beer hall for an easy meal close to St Stephens Basicila and it was perfect.

As we walked home we kept seeing great places that we wanted to try but knew we wouldn't have enough time too.

We woke up on the early side Wednesday morning because we were going to a bathhouse. First we grabbed a coffee to sip outside at one of the many cafes and then took the subway to one of the old bathhouses, Szechenyi, that Ashley couldn't have been more excited about (I actually think this is why she wanted to come to Budapest). It was awesome. Mineral baths, steam rooms, cold pools, outdoor pools all in a building built in the early 1900s. To say Ashley was happy is a gigantic understatement.

After three hours of soaking we grabbed a quick Kebab in the park and walked around the Vajdahunyad Castle and Heroes' Square. Heroes' Square is simple but amazing. Incredible statues of serious bad ass looking leaders throughout Hungary's Past.

Then it was another quick subway to check out the New York Cafe before walking home to get ready for dinner. Again we passed by so many great looking restaurants. Nothing that looked fancy, but simply welcoming with great menus. After getting ready we headed back to one spot we poked our head into earlier, Mazel Tov, for a quick drink before dinner. The place again was awesome.

We were excited for the place we were heading for dinner, so we sped over for our 8p reservation and were not disappointed. Out waiter helped us to order to great Hungarian dishes and wine as we sat in the open window looking out to the street.

Every corner we turn we are find another "cute" or "perfect" spot we would love to try. Enough already Budapest. Stop showing off It's getting a little annoying.
