Munchen to Praha

On Tuesday we started our day around 7 in order to catch the 9:01 train to Prague. We have determined that it takes us about 45 minutes to hour to get out the door on days we are moving cities, so we budgeted enough time to allow for the UBahn ride as well as get some food in our bellies (they are no longer stomachs at this point). We had five hour forty-five minute train ahead of us.

Took a few minutes to find our train, but as we boarded, I quickly realized it was one I was familiar with. The cars were set up exactly like the one in EuroTrip in the scene with the handsy Italian gentleman. Each cabin was set to hold six people total with three per side facing the other three. Luckily we had selected seats as only a few train cars had this option and we could hear plenty of other travelers complaining that they couldn't find any seats.

The smell, at least in our cabin, was something fierce and made it a long train ride. There was a mix of cigarette, human and old wafting around the 8x4 (guessing in those dimensions) cabin. Thankfully there were no handy Italian gentleman.

The view was beautiful as we headed northeast out of Munich. The city eventually opening up to rolling farmlands dotted with villages or large swaths of forests. The scenery began to change once we entered the Czech Republic as we began to run though the woods and along the rivers. There plenty of old buildings falling into disrepair along the way, but the image I've had in my head of Czech Republic (probably because of movies like EuroTrip) were not exactly what we were seeing. It was plain to see that the country does not have the economy of a power like Germany, but didn't appear from the onset to be in the condition I had in my mind.

Our train arrived in Prague and we set out on a 20 minute walk that took us through Wencles Square, Old Town and finally to our AirBnB near the Old Jewish Area. Our dollars went a little further here than other cities so we were please to walk into a two bedroom apartment all to ourselves. Always nice to be able to spread out when traveling.

After getting accommodated with the apartment we set out for a walk to explore the city a bit. We checked out the Old Jewish Area, grabbed some mussels for a snack, walked in Old Town Square, saw the Astrological Clock and wound our way through the streets to eventually get to Charles Bridge well after sunset. The city is definitely beautiful from here at night, not quite the majesty of Budapest, but the castle lit up on the hill is a site to be seen.

Finally it was time head home and get some rest.
