Crossing boarders - Salzburg to Munich

On Saturday morning we were to cross the boarder into Germany. As Drew noted in an earlier post trains were still canceled in either direction from Salzburg to Munich so we hired a car service to take us to a small town, Freilassing, just over the boarder into Germany where we could catch a train to Munich. Normally this trip would take just over 20 minutes with no traffic or delays.... yesterday's commute was an hour and a half.

We gave ourselves enough time as our train wasn't until 9:24. The car service served promptly arrived at 7am and we were off to see what boarder control had in store for us.

As we approached the boarder we could see the red tail lights in the distance but our cab driver was very pleased to see only a short line of cars. After about a 10 minute wait the cab driver asked for our passports - we were next in line. The police asked the driver for our passports and after a quick glance in the van with no questions asked we were back on the road again.

An interesting point the cab driver (original from India) brought up was that the police were not checking his ID.  He even said he looked more like the majority of refugees trying to cross...

With the luck of crossing the boarder with no issues we arrived at the Freilassing train station by 7:25 and were able to change our train tickets to an earlier train into Munich.

By 10:15 we were in Munich and on the U to our airbnb. We were renting a room this time around as you can only imagine how $$$expensive$$$ accommodations are in Munich this time of year. Our hosts were kind enough to let us check in early so we dropped off our bags and headed into Munich city area for another classic Rich Steves auto tour guide.

After about an hour we grabbed coffee at Hotel Bayerischer Hof thanks to a recommendation from Drew's friend Steve Will.  Great view of some of the churches we walked by during our tour.

I was bit run down afterwards so we made our way back to our airbnb around 5pm. Since Salzburg I had been having constant headaches, the chills at least once a day and today my chest was killing me when breathing deep/exhaling. We stayed in for the rest of the night and thankfully when waking up the next day my chest was completely back to normal - so glad we didn't have to make any trips to the doctors :)
